We work to identify and support places and practices at risk, helping ensure that both tangible and intangible heritage are recorded, protected, and understood before they are lost.
Our approach combines field research, archival work, and collaboration with specialists to better understand the cultural, historical, and environmental significance of vulnerable heritage. By documenting these resources in detail, we help create lasting records that can support conservation, restoration, and responsible stewardship.
We also emphasize the importance of preserving living traditions—practices, knowledge systems, and cultural expressions that continue to shape community identity. Through this work, we aim to strengthen awareness of heritage value and support long-term efforts to protect it for future generations.
Environmental Advocacy
We promote the protection and understanding of natural landscapes as an essential part of our shared heritage. Our environmental advocacy highlights the connections between ecological systems and cultural history, emphasizing how landscapes both shape and preserve human experience over time.
A key focus of our work is our book The Intelligence of Lakes: Hydrological Thresholds and Settlement Archaeology, which examines paleoshorelines, hydrology, and the long-term evolution of lake systems. This research reveals lakes as dynamic archives of environmental change, recording past climates, landscapes, and human interaction with water systems.
Through research and outreach, we advocate for the protection of these fragile environments and promote recognition of natural landscapes as vital to heritage preservation and informed environmental stewardship.
